FSJ • A Day in the City

The 12″ x 12″ scrapbook page size has always been my favorite to work with since the large size gives you plenty of room for pictures and many products like patterned papers and embellishments. However, I also have done some of my pages in 8″ x 8″ or 6″ x 8″ sizes. These last two, are fun since you can finish a page faster, but the size of the page kind of limits the amount of details and pictures you can use. Anyhow, I was curious about trying another size for a page: 8.5″ x 11″ or Letter size. I have seen many  scrapbookers creating using this size and they always seem to achieve beautiful pages where the amount of elements seems to be just right.

Well, today I am sharing a letter size page that I made using wonderful Fun Stampers Journey products to document a short visit to the city that my husband and I did last year. I won’t be describing each of the steps I followed to create this page but I will highlight a few of them.

020418web_adayinthecity8

I used the clouds paper that is included in the Spring Filled Prints pack, as the background for the double layer of buildings I made with the Hero City die. For the other part of the page, I used the dotted paper included in the Birthday Pop Prints pack. To disguise the joint in between, and to connect the upper and bottom parts of the page, I used two lines of Journey Tape. You can barely see them since the pictures and title are right on top of them.

020418web_adayinthecity5

For the word “city” I aligned the letters on an acrylic block leaving enough space in between them, so I could die cut them later. I inked the whole letters with Beach Ball ink and then, using a sponge dauber and Huckleberry Fusion Ink, I applied color over half of each letter to achieve an ombré effect. This part has to be done fast because you don’t want the ink to dry over the stamp. For this step be sure that both of your ink pads are quite juicy.

020418web_adayinthecity6

For the words “A Day in The”, I stamped each letter with Black Licorice Ink and I die cut each of them with their matching die. I used a circle as a base to adhere the letters. Using a circle was in part, because we rode the Ferris wheel 😉 and because I could put more letters along the circle than if I tried to put them all in a straight line over the word “city”. I think they fit and look better. Besides that, I punched a couple of hearts using Mirror Gold cardstock, just to embellish and link both lines of the title.

020418web_adayinthecity7

Besides the pictures, I also used the memorabilia from that day as part of my page. Since the page already had a lot of elements so far, I did not want to add that many embellishments, so I only used a bubble text, a piece of view film, and a camera clip. Overall I can say that I liked the letter size for a page, I made it quite fast, and I loved how my page turned out at the end.

FSJ • Happy Shelby Scrapbook Page

I love when I can create scrapbook pages, specially if I can pair some fabulous products with a great sketch.  I made this page using a picture of my Shelby. The day I took the picture, we were at the backyard of our house with some friends, and she got everybody’s attention. She played fetch, ran a lot, and ended up exhausted… but happy.

Anyway, I know I have said it before, but I am going to say it again. If you want to save some time while creating your scrapbook pages, it is ok to base your creation on a sketch designed by somebody else like I did. The sketch of the layout that I used is by the talented Laura Whitaker, and you can find it >>>HERE<<<.

It is a lot of fun to create each of the elements of this page and put them together. For this page I used the Mystic Romance Prints along with some dies, stamps and embellishments.110517web)HappyShelby2

I used the Blooming Details die set to create the flowers and leaves. I also used the Border Basics die set along with the Everyday Tags. I only use part of the tag showing above and below the picture.110517web)HappyShelby4

I used the Marquee Type bundle (stamps and die) to make the title. Additionally, I used  the HB stamp. I  white embossed the word “happy” and I cut it into little squares.  The page was complemented with some Pink World sequins, Sparkle Silk, Journey Tape and some crystals.

FSJ• Love is All You Need

Last year when I went to Mexico to my mom’s house, I found a bunch of slides that my dad took of the family.  I found one of myself with a cat when I was maybe three or four years old. This is one of those pictures that can demonstrate that cats have always been a part of my life 🙂 Anyway, I scanned the slide and printed it out to make a page  with it. The resolution of the picture is not good at all, but I think it is ok for my project. So today I am sharing an 8 x 8 page that I created using several products by Fun Stampers Journey. Check it:

011817web_allyouneedislove

To create this page I began by creating the background. I used the Heart Wall stencil along with PanPastels to create a subtle backgrounds that blends with the white card stock base. After that, I stamped the cute cat images randomly with River Stone ink. I also flicked some Bubble Gum and Silver Silks over it.

011817web_allyouneedislove4

I added a  couple of layers of card stock, a border and washi tape, that work as the base of the picture. I adhered this to the page with adhesive and I secure it with a couple of staples on both sides.  I die cut a pierced heart, and I stamped a sentiment with Black Licorice ink.

011817web_allyouneedislove3

I want to point out that this sentiment is included in a set called Amazing Day that belongs to the Bloom This Way Mini Catalog (recently released). I added color to the word love with Journey Color Splash Watercolor Pencils . I also applied Journey Glaze over it. I added this heart onto the page with foam squares.

011817web_allyouneedislove5

At this point I thought my page was still missing a few more details. So, I added  some punched hearts, a partial stamped border on the top of the page and a complementary sentiment. To finish it off, I embellished it with some dots and rhinestones.

011817web_allyouneedislove2

I love creating pages for my albums. This particular one was fun, not just because that page was about my childhood, but because I was able to include many Fun Stampers Journey products that I really like!

RG• Noteworthy Layout Sneak Peek

Hi! Here is a sneak peek of a layout that was posted last week  on Richard Garay’s Blog. Sorry about the late post, but I went to Mexico for ten days and I was super busy there everyday. I love making scrapbooking layouts specially when I am using fun products like the ones from the Noteworthy Collection.

My Crafty Space

The loft of my house is where my  crafty space is located. It is tiny but, keeping it well organized and unclutterd, I can maintain my corner functional… and my mind too 😀  Today I am going to share a little bit about it and how I have organized some of my crafty stuff.  Welcome to my crafty space:

mg_craftspace21_600

I have a small desk that I use for my computer and to create my projects. On top of the table, besides my computer, I have a big cutting mat and some clear plastic organizers where I put the products that I am going to use on my next project.

mg_craftspace16_600

On the right side against the wall, I have my ink organizers, which I love because I have near at hand all my ink pads.

mg_craftspace15_600

I have four drawers on the left side of my desk, and inside them, I have things that I constantly use like some tools, a small trimmer, decorative tape, gemstones, and pearls.

mg_craftspace18_600

I like to have my gemstones, pearls, and enamel dots organized inside photo albums. Those are the inexpensive photo albums that you can  find at almost any store. I have my supplies organized by brand 🙂

mg_craftspace19_600

Next to my desk on the left, there is a tall bookcase which I use to put catalogs, card stock, markers, paints,  etc. I have the card stock organized by brand, and I have them inside 12×12 paper organize. Inside each of this organizers, I have the card stock separated by color and labeled with its name. I use heavy duty page protectors for each color and I love that I can put also paper scraps.  At the side of the tall bookcase, I have my paper trimmer and my Journey Platinum. Below them, I have 12 x12 compartments and drawers with some other stamping supplies.

mg_craftspace23_600

Next to my ink organizer I have a bigger bookcase which is the home of my electronic cutting machines, my printer, scanner. On the lower shelf I have four plastic containers  that I use to keep the current products that I am using to create new projects.

mg_craftspace17_600

One of those containers has products from the Celebra’tions Collection, and another one has products from the other three collections by Ricard Garay. I like to use clear paper protectors to put  my stamp sets, and  magnetic sheets  with die frames. I also have another container in the shelf where I put dies, stencils, and other products by Fun Stampers Journey and other brands.

mg_craftspace22_600

One of the last things that I bought for my crafty space is a gray wheeled cart, which I love. I can move it closer to my desk if I need to.  In the first level, I keep my adhesives and some “I don’t use too often” tools. In the middle level I have the stamping stuff (acrylic blocks, cleaners). The lower level has some other tools, as well as some other things that I don’t know where to put … lol.

mg_craftspace20_600

We want to move to a bigger house when my younger son finishes high school. So, I have hope that I can get a bigger crafty space some day. For the moment, I have to continue cleaning and keeping my creative corner organized , because even though it is tiny, I love spending time in here.

RG Lumberjack Layout

I really enjoy every time I get to scrapbook one of my old pictures, because many memories come to my mind. I love that each picture traps a moment and makes you remember about it. Today I am sharing an 8″x 8″ scrapbook page that I made using several fabulous products from the new Lumberjack Collection by Richard Garay.

mg_lumberjack_younglayout3

The picture that I chose is one that I took with my camera and a tripod of my husband and myself. This is kind of a selfie in the 80’s 😀  With this in mind, I printed out the picture in black and white with a cream filter. Which made the grey tones look a bit yellowish, in order to make the picture look old. I know, it is old anyway (sigh).

For this page, I used a sketch by Laura Whitaker that you can find by >>>clicking here<<<. I wanted to use the Lumberjack Bromance Printed 6″ x 6″ Paper pad to create my page, so I coordinated them with some Fun Stampers Journey card stock colors.

I created the texture using the Knitted Pattern Embossing Folder and FSJ Raspberry Berry card stock. I did one half first and then, the other half. I didn’t worry about where the two textures joined because I kew that part was going to be covered with the other elements.

mg_lumberjack_younglayout10

Then, I trimmed it into a 7.5″ x 7.5″ panel. I also matted it with FSJ Rock Candy card stock and I added stitches along the edge. The three stripes behind the picture were made from Bromance Printed papers (1.5″ x 6″) as well as the picture mat.

mg_lumberjack_younglayout4

To create the embellishments of this page I mixed and matched Lumberjack Blooms  and Bromance Blooms Die sets along with FSJ Butter Cream card stock.

mg_lumberjack_younglayout2

I also used the Brach Out die set and FSJ River Stone card stock to complement the blooms. Aren’t those flowers so fun and pretty? Aditionally I put a Bro Rivets as the flower centers.

mg_lumberjack_younglayout9

No journaling this time, just a a simple title that I made with my electronic cutting machine and textured card stock,  a complementary word with my Dymo label buddy, and some stickers to record the year when that picture was taken. I adhered some clear gemstones as the final touches for this page.

I have a pile of favorite pictures still waiting to be put on a scrapbook page, and I wish I could dedicate a little bit more of my time to scrapbook more often, because I really enjoy doing this.

RG Celebra’tions Layout

Happy Wednesday!

Currently, one of my favorites collections by Richard Garay is Celebra’tions. I really like this collection because it includes a wide variety of products that you can use in many different type of projects. Today I am sharing a scrap booking page that I created using some of the products from this collection.

Last year, my husband and I took a day off from work, because it was our 26th Anniversary, and we wanted to do something special. So, besides having lunch together,  we went to visit a place called The Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, IL. This place is amazing. I love all the beautiful decorative details of the construction and the peace that you can feel there. Of course, we took a few pictures, so I created  a scrapbooking page with some of them…

mg_celebrations_layout8

Many of my scrapbook pages include photo collages, just because it is faster for me to complete the pages.  I used Assorted Prints 12″ x 12″ Printed cardstock  to create the background of the page. I thought that the doilies of the patterned paper that I used kind of simulate the details of the temple. The title of the page was created with my Silhouette, and regular card stock. The journaling was typed with my computer and printed out on a strip of yellow vellum.

mg_celebrations_layout7

I created the banner with one of the shapes included in Banner Trio Die Set along with patterned paper and regular card stock. The golden hearts were made with one of the Pierced Hearts dies and a piece of metallic card stock.

mg_celebrations_layout6

The little tags were created with a Tag dies set by Fun Stampers Journey, and they were also stamped with sentiments included in Many Words stamp set and Sweet Treats stamp set using Berry Black and Captivating Coral True Color Fusion Inks.

mg_celebrations_layout5

The pretty flower shapes were created with the Enhanced Banner die templates along with patterned papers and card stock. Additionally, I included some Journey Color Buttons, gemstones and pearls by Fun Stampers Journey as the final touches of this page.

Even though, photo collages can take a big chunk of the space on your page, and limit the design itself, with different colors, patterned papers, embellishments and details you can make your pages look different from each other.
